InstaReview: Conversations With Friends by Sally Rooney

"Gradually the waiting began to feel less like waiting and more like this was simply what life was: the distracting tasks undertaken while the thing you are waiting for continues not to happen."

As you may know, Hulu has just launched a series based on Sally Rooney's debut novel (surprise! debut was NOT Normal People!). While the series has been getting some press as a "Sophomore Slump" from @rollingstone, its source material cannot be said to be anything but a star (4.5 STARS) in our eyes. Sally Rooney is excellent at writing flawed people who are terrible at communicating and their awkward, messed up relationships. She also is great at writing a heady and overly pensive narrator who is caught up in various existential musings. And we are here for all of it. If those things appeal to you AND you like sexual tension and get a strange thrill from romantic disappointments, run, don't walk, to buy this book before you sit down to watch the series.
