InstaReview: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

"People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'you're safe with me' - that's intimacy."

Summer might be just about over, but there's still time to grab The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and devour it at your next pool or beach sesh! Taylor Jenkins Reid turns historical fiction into a compelling page turner with the story of Evelyn Hugo, a Hollywood icon ready to sit down and tell the story of her life through her lovers and relationships. We enjoyed the tour through the various decades and locales, the complexities of an imperfect heroine, and the slow burn of a good twist developing. Perhaps this was intentional for a novel about a woman with seven husbands but it felt a *touch* melodramatic at times, leading us to our 4 star rating. Similar vibes to City of Girls, so if you loved that you'll love this! And word is that it’s been optioned it for a film, so read it now so you can say you read it first 😉
